The Meaning Behind Eid Al Etihad

The term Eid Al Etihad translates to “Celebration of the Union” in Arabic, with Eid meaning “celebration” and Etihad meaning “union.” Together, these words commemorate the unification of seven emirates into a single federation in 1971, a milestone that laid the foundation for the UAE’s extraordinary growth. This day marks a milestone in the UAE’s history and underscores the nation’s continued focus on growth and innovation.

The UAE has rapidly transformed into a global nexus for commerce, innovation, and cultural exchange. In the first quarter of 2024, the UAE's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) reached AED 430 billion, marking a 3.4% year-on-year growth, according to the Emirates News Agency (WAM). Notably, the non-oil sector expanded by 4%, propelled by trade, manufacturing, and financial services, reflecting the country's increased focus on diversifying its economy.

Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM), one of the UAE's two financial free zones, saw a substantial 215% increase in assets under management in the third quarter of 2024 compared to the same quarter of 2023, reflecting its growing appeal to international financial firms. This diversification aligns with the 'We the UAE 2031' vision, which aims to double the GDP to AED 3 trillion and boost non-oil exports to AED 800 billion.
